Beautiful earrings handmade by Carlos Ortega, a jewelry artist from Mexico. Carlos is the winner of a 1st Place award from a national artist competition in 2016. FONART, a national entity that supports and promotes the arts, awarded him for his set of earrings and necklace called “Amor de Primavera”. Over the past 16 years, he has become an accomplished artist and has developed a refined vintage style inspired by Frida Kahlo’s fashion.
Ortega incorporates a style of jewelry making called filigree. This style uses handcrafted twisted designs made of silver threads or wires, which are soldered into the jewelry design. Filigree jewelry requires immense amounts of precision, knowledge, skill and patience. Carlosβ jewelry integrates this and other techniques that involve drawing, cutting, stamping, bending, hammering over fabric, and oxidation.
